I'm an award-winning journalist and media relations advisor based in the greater New York City area. I create content for all platforms, including social media, blogs, websites, print and online newspapers and magazines. I also write speeches and create narration for videos and podcasts.
As a media relations consultant, I provide clients with press releases, long- and short-form articles, letters to the editor and advice for raising their profile and getting published in outlets that reach their target audiences. I help clients develop mutually beneficial relationships with editors, producers, bloggers and other decision-makers who can draw attention to their product or cause.
My experience includes working as Director of Marketing and Public Relations for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society in New York City where I led efforts to raise the organization's profile and attract more volunteers and donations to their amazing work of eradicating blood cancers and supporting patients and families. Over the past 18 years, I have worked as a marketing and PR/communications consultant to dozens of nonprofits and healthcare organizations, including the Arthritis Foundation, Northwestern Memorial Hospital and the Alzheimer's Association. My extensive experience helps me create powerful messaging and effective strategies to inform and influence target audiences across all platforms.
Claire began her career as a freelance journalist writing for The Chicago Tribune and several other high profile publications. After winning a national award for medical journalism, she was invited to create a communications department and a marketing/PR strategy for the Chicago chapter of the Arthritis Foundation. As interim director of communications, she devised a comprehensive plan that redirected marketing focus from individual events to compelling individual profiles, effectively putting a “face” on arthritis and raising the chapter’s profile statewide; consolidated the media outreach efforts of eight separate departments; developed the chapter’s first media database; successfully pitched stories to targeted media outlets; trained staff on marketing communications and PR; created communications collaterals (website content, newsletters, brochures, etc.) and wrote speeches for leaders given at major fundraising events.
Along the way, Claire has used her storytelling skills and media relations expertise to help numerous nonprofits and health care organizations. She has created content and provided PR advice to several of the largest and most prestigious medical entities, including Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Geisinger Health Systems, Rush University Medical Center, ANDRUS and the Alzheimer’s Association.
Claire also worked as a Senior Writer for Lipman Hearne, a Chicago-based marketing communications firm dedicated to nonprofit promotion and has completed a wide range of freelance projects for other innovative marketing firms, including Smith Design, SLS Design, HLB Communications and McGuffin Creative.
In 2014 Claire was hired as Director of Marketing and Public Relations for the New York City chapter of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society where she helped raise the organization's profile and draw attention to its efforts to fund medical research and support patients and their families. Claire is frequently tapped as a consultant by both nonprofits and small businesses for marketing, PR and media relations advice and training.
Claire is a graduate of Northwestern University and The London School of Economics. She is a member of the American Marketing Association and the American Medical Writers Association (AMWA).
